Our coaches come from a diverse background of basketball and various ties to cancer. They have volunteered their time and efforts to find a cure for a deadly disease that affects every one of us. Our coaches are the flesh and bones of Coaches vs Cancer. Without them, we could not to what we do, and make the impact that we do. For this, we owe a huge Thank  You to all of our coaches. Thank You for teaming up in the fight against cancer, and Thank You for helping us find a cure.

Why are you involved in Coaches vs. Cancer?

"Coaches vs. Cancer is a cause that is dear to my heart because each and every one of us has had our lives affected by this horrible disease. Every dollar we can raise to aid cancer research, education and advocacy brings us one step closer to finding a cure and saving countless lives.

One of my mottos in life has always been ‘Next.’ As in looking toward what the next challenge and obstacle is, rather than dwelling on the past. It is my hope, along with all of the coaches who get involved with this great cause, that our ‘Next’ in the fight against cancer will be survivorship."

Why are you involved in Coaches vs. Cancer?

"Cancer has touched so many lives, I don't think there's a person out there today who hasn't been touched by cancer...for me personally, my father last year was diagnosed with prostate cancer, had surgery, and died from the complications from that surgery...as a coach, it's a way I can give back...I'm hoping one day we can find that cure".

Why are you involved in Coaches vs. Cancer?

"I have faith that sooner, rather than later, we’re going to beat this disease. Scientists tell us this. Doctors tell us this. And I hope my involvement with Coaches vs. Cancer will help us get there.   In the past few years alone, we’ve seen amazing progress – the tide is turning in the fight against cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer is a powerful way for our coaching fraternity to be a part of the fight against cancer. If we continue working together, the end of this horrible disease just may be within our reach.

Coaches vs Cancer is special to me because it shows that we not only compete on the court but more importantly we compete in life by helping others. It’s what we do for others and how we help others in trouble, and that’s something that we can do by raising money for people we know that are touched with this disease. We all are familiar with people who have fought this disease and also with people who have lost the battle. It’s important to do this for them, but more importantly, it’s helping people we may not even know.

The role we play is much more then coaching and winning games. It’s about being a part of our communities, representing our institutions in a positive way, and to give back. Being associated with Coaches vs Cancer is our small way of giving back, and if we can make a difference in the fight vs cancer and make life a little easier for those affected or touched by this disease, then we know this is an outstanding win for us".

Why are you involved in Coaches vs. Cancer?

Unfortunately cancer is a word my family knows all too well. Back in October 2006, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer and just a few months before I was named as the Head coach at Edgewood College. It was then that my wife and I decided to dedicate ourselves to helping fight cancer. Between both of our families, we have had grandparents, uncles, cousins, parents and friends that have all battled cancer. Some of those battles have been won, but far too many have been lost and it is because of that I joined this fight. We as coaches teach our guys to play hard and work toward a common goal, even if it sometimes seems like a victory might be hard to achieve. The fight against cancer, in some ways, is very much the same. Many people have been working very hard to find a cure for this disease, and I am excited about the role I have played in bringing "Shooting for a Cure" to Wisconsin and joining forces with the ACS to do whatever we can to help with this battle.

Why are you involved in Coaches vs. Cancer?

"It is an absolute privilege to be a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Wisconsin edition and to have the opportunity to work with the American Cancer Society. This event not only brings out basketball fans from throughout the state but also those people willing to give their time and financial support to fight this terrible disease. I have greatly enjoyed my relationship with the Coaches vs. Cancer event and look forward to its’ continued growth. As coaches we all know we are a very small part of this event and we greatly appreciate all the support we have received from those of you who have helped us raise money to battle cancer."
